you probably have. Way back in the day in the book of Genesis (from the
Bible), there was this dude named Jacob. He was a slick dude, hustling
anyone who crossed his path. Funny thing is, God was able to use this

III Things That Haunt Me: Death

Have you ever felt like you were being haunted by something? Maybe
it was just a creaky floorboard in an old house or a noisy icemaker in
a new refrigerator, but you thought it was poltergeist or the Blair
Witch.

Well, there are three totally legitimate anxieties
that have haunted mankind throughout the ages. (No, they donât have
anything to do with the Browns, Cavs, or Indians, but that was a good
guess.) We fear these things because they are extremely real, and if we
donât face them â they will completely and utterly destroy us. On a
brighter note, God tells us that he is the only being in the universe
who can scare these ghosts awayâ

Momentum at the Movies 2009: Wall-E

Jesus created parables â stories with spiritual meaning â to teach
his audiences. Paul, the author of many of the letters that we now call
âbooksâ of the Bible, quoted mainstream poets and plays in his
writings. Both used creative ways to teach regular people about a God
who desires to know and to lead us.

On that note, every year
Momentum discusses some of the most popular films that have been
released over the last year. We ask, âWhat eternal truths can we learn
from these popular stories? How can these movies be used as parables
that move us forward to love God, love people, and serve the world?â

Jesus had a very clear mission when he came to earth. He even tipped
his hand a few times and told his friends what some of his personal
mission statements were. In fact, he was so laser-focused on his
assignment that it rubbed off on his followersâand changed the world
forever.

Were you also placed here for a reason? How would
your life be different if you knew beyond the shadow of a doubt what
Godâs purpose for your life was?

If you knew why you were here, two things would be certain:
1. You would have an amazing amount of peace in your life.
2. You would be driven.

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry his opinion about who Jesus was and is,
but who â or what â does Jesus claim to be? That may help us all decide
if we really want to follow him and imitate him as the ultimate leader
and role model of our lives.

In the Gospel of John, the fourth
biography of Jesus found in the Bible, Jesus uses several metaphors to
reveal his identity and mission to us. For example, what did Jesus mean
when he said, âI am the Good Shepherdâ? Letâs ask God to guide us as we
unpack these metaphors.

Mo(ses) Leadership: The Leader's Reward

Moses is one of the most popular leaders in history. Funny thing, though: Dude didnât think he had what it took to be a leader. Mo(ses) was short-tempered; he was self-conscious about a speech problem he had; and he didnât think God could use his life for anything significant.

Maybe a friend turned their back on you. Maybe someone you loved
betrayed you. We all have wounds and we end up carrying around these
things that people have done to us for weeks, months, and sometimes
even years. It isn't always easy to forgive these people and after a
while these hurts can get really heavy. So the only way to feel better
seems to be somehow getting back at the people that hurt us, to get
revenge. But does revenge ever truly satisfy? Maybe forgiving isn't
something you do for someone else to let them off the hook. Maybe
forgiveness is about you. God didn't create you to carry these wounds
around. God created you to be free.
